Missing Middle Housing Summit + Workshop – October 2026
In October 2026, the Missing Middle Housing Summit brought together housing professionals, policymakers, and community members to explore ways to expand affordable housing options in San Antonio. Strong Towns founder Chuck Marohn opened the summit with a keynote presentation about the roots of the housing crisis that pervades North American cities, which are prone to a never-ending cycle of boom and bust. He shared an alternative vision of a housing ecosystem that is developed incrementally to create a more resilient community. The subsequent day-long workshop examined potential financing tools and development code changes to make missing middle housing easier to build while supporting affordability and neighborhood stability.
You can also expect to see a Missing Middle Housing Finance and Policy Toolkit, which will identify possible financing mechanisms for smaller-scale housing options, coming later this year.
