San Antonio, Texas (February 4, 2021) – The San Antonio Housing Trust is currently seeking public input on a proposed Tenant Protection Policy aimed at guiding the relationship between future SAHT multi-family development partners and the tenants residing in their properties. The proposed policy can be viewed online in English and Spanish at SAHousingTrust.org.
The proposed Tenant Protection Policy covers:
- Written Procedures
- Source of Income Protection
- Tenant Selection
- Fair Housing Marketing
- Non-Discrimination
- Right to Access Tenant File
- Repairs/Remedies/Healthy Unit
- Relocation Assistance
- Returning to Unit
- Right to Personal Property
- Eviction Process/Notice
- Grounds for Termination
- 30 Day/10 Day/3 Day Notice
- Entry into Unit
- Right to Organize
- Other Tenant/Owner Policies
“While State of Texas laws and local ordinances provide the framework of this relationship amongst all landlord/tenants, our San Antonio Housing Trust Public Facility Corporation developments receive substantial public investment or tax exemptions through our participation,” said Pete Alanis, Executive Director of the San Antonio Housing Trust Foundation. “The SAHT PFC/FC seeks improved opportunities to reduce tenant displacements and evolve the tenant experience by establishing a set of tenant protection policies for our multifamily affordable housing engagements moving forward.”
The SAHT will accept written public input and comments through March 12, 2021 at 5 p.m. Comments may be submitted by either:
- U.S. mail, courier, or hand deliver: 2515 Blanco Road, San Antonio, TX 78212
- Electronically to Nicole Collazo at nicolec@saht.org
After consideration of public comments and input, staff will propose a Final Tenant Protection Policy for consideration by the Public Facility Corporation Board at a future meeting.
