Request for Applications Now Available
San Antonio, Texas (February 1, 2021) – The San Antonio Housing Trust Foundation has approved $3,000,000 in funding for affordable housing options throughout San Antonio. The foundation provides funding to support non-profit 501(c)(3) and social enterprise organizations efforts to preserve, protect, and create affordable housing.
“We want to ensure that San Antonio continues to recognize that housing is a human right,” said Pedro Alanis, Executive Director of the San Antonio Housing Trust Foundation. “Being able to provide $3,000,000 from the San Antonio Housing Trust for critical housing infrastructure, allows us to promote equitable revitalization in our communities, which ultimately makes for a stronger and more dynamic San Antonio.”
Established in 1991, the San Antonio Housing Trust Foundation has provided financial assistance for projects designed to support the City of San Antonio’s efforts to produce and preserve and protect affordable housing. In 2016, the San Antonio Housing Trust provided $930,000 in assistance to four affordable properties creating or preserving 554 low-income units.
The foundation’s $3,000,000 will be awarded to either nonprofits or social enterprises whose applications demonstrate solutions for low-income housing that supports inequitably disadvantaged populations such as the elderly, persons with physical or mental disabilities, low-income families with children, people experiencing homelessness, the chronically ill, or other economically disadvantaged populations.
Evaluation of applications will be measured against the Housing Trust’s goals of equity, economic inclusion, and ethnic diversity. Of the $3,000,000, $300,000 will be designated for the Executive Director’s Challenge, allowing pilot projects and creative initiatives to compete independently to address San Antonio’s most difficult housing challenges.
